the hang seng gained 2%. wall street investors are waiting for a fiscal cliff deal. stocks were unchanged. the dow lost 13 points while the nasdaq was down five points. bank profits are getting bigger. the financial industry earned $37.6 billion in the third quarter. that's an increase of more than 6% and it could lead to more lending. there's good news on the housing front. a survey shows housing prices were up more than 6% in october. that's the best gain in six years. starting in 2016 the disney characters are coming to netflix. they landed exclusive rights to stream disney movies before they air on cable networks. netflix will get some of disney's classic movies. no financial terms of the deal were released. and just in time for the holidays, starbucks is introducing a $454 gift card. the card is made of etched steel. comes with $400 on it. the reason why it's $450? it costs $50 just to make the card. there will be only 5,000 available and they will only be sold on the website gilt.com. the card comes with a gold level starbucks membership for $400 you can buy 57 cups of starbucks new

now despite those fiscal cliff anxieties. they've been pretty steady throughout the day. the s&p 500 broke above its 50-day moving average, believe it or not. earlier in the day it's backed off a little bit. economic news and new data shows u.s. manufacturing falling to its lowest level in three years. and there is a little nervousness about the president taking to twitter at 2:00 p.m. eastern time to talk about the fiscal cliff negotiations that are going on. but it is the first trading day of the month and some on wall street are getting bullish for year end. it is going to be a december to remember, i predict it. >> i think this is one of the reasons we're holding up so well, because december is the best month of the year and we roll into january which is also a very good month. let me show you some sectors that do especially well in the month of december. there's major sectors here. this is the best performing sectors in the month of december, averaged over the last ten years. you can see it is a diverse group -- health care, telecom, utilities. a lots of people play dividend at

they know is wrong. as you know, they talk about the fiscal cliff. some people say it's a slope. somebody said it was a bungi jump. somebody said it was a skate board trip, down and then up and so forth. bottom line, i think, it's no way to govern. it is a giant mistake to have all of this in a pool of ambiguity, and as i understand it now, you would know more. i mean, it truly is a stalemate. they are not talking. >> now, you point out that it's the same player, and, i think, you'll agree player that is matter most are the president, speaker boehner. what do we know about the personal relationship that might illuminate what's going on right now? >> well, they started out last year when they were working on the debt ceiling, and they had what are calledded the merlot and nicorette's meetings. in other words, boehner would have a merlot, and obama would chew nicorette. >> you point outside in the book somehow when they took the official photo, both of those vanished. >> yes. they had iced tea there for obama. of course, boehner had his seg represent, and they put the cigarette in the ashtr
